NWSUFCF (The Forum)

North Wales Service User, Family and Carer Forum is a representative organisation established to gather the views and concerns of those who use, or have used, substance misuse and/or mental health facilities, as well as their Carers or Family Members, and act as a conduit between them and the relevant statutory bodies.

Committee Member Role Description

Committee members are involved in leading, developing, and shaping the organisation and managing its administration. As a committee member you will work as part of a team to steer the Forum and you will have joint responsibility for its actions and affairs.

Main duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend Forum committee meetings regularly
  • Attend local Forum network meetings as required
  • Familiarise yourself with participant groups and organisations
  • Adopt a democratic approach
  • Work as part of a team
  • Undertake any actions with which you have been tasked in a timely manner
  • Make collective decisions about the governance of the Forum
  • Represent the Forum at regional and national level as required
  • Actively participate in any meeting or event attended and present your views and those of other local participants/representatives when asked to do so
  • Actively promote NWSUCF
  • Contribute to developing policies and procedures for the Forum
  • Attend meetings of local participant groups to collect their views and concerns and feed this information to the Forum
  • Provide feedback to other representatives at local network meetings on decisions and service improvements so that they are kept up to date with developments
  • Understand and adhere to all Forum policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines relevant to this role
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and attend any training opportunities that may be made available for your personal development

Requirements for the role:

  • Be currently using mental health or substance misuse services, or have done so in the recent past, or be a carer or family member of someone who has used services in that period.
  • Have a non-judgemental approach and have a positive regard for the values and beliefs of others
  • Have an enthusiastic and supportive approach, working within a team.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including: people who use services, carers, other professionals, and members of the public
  • Have the ability to handle challenging situations and behave in a professional manner
  • Be aware of and adhere to confidentiality guidelines
  • Be able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy and show respect for others
  • To promote a positive image of NWSUCF to service users and stakeholders

Desirable Attributes

  • Have experience of facilitating groups
  • Have been involved in consultations
  • Be able to write a feedback report
  • Have experience of giving presentations

Expectations

  • Delegates will be expected to commit to a minimum role commitment of 24 months

 Training

No-one will be expected to undertake the role before full and effective training has been made available, which will be facilitated by Caniad on behalf of NWSUFCF and include:

Professional Boundaries, Value Based Interviewing, Assertiveness and Decision Making, Communication Skills, Conflict Resolution, Confidence Building, Data Protection and Confidentiality, Professional Etiquette, Team Building, IT and Social Media

Interviews and Selection during the week commencing 24th April 2017

Scheduled Training to take place during May 2017

Selected Delegates to attend meetings from June 2017
